Ann Tlusty, The Public House and Military Culture in Germany, 1500-1648 (deals with masculine soldier identities and household issues, among other things) and Beat Kümin, Public Houses and their Patrons in Early Modern Europe (considers gender and status issues among tavern patrons), both appearing in The World of the Tavern. Public Houses in Early Modern Europe (Beat Kümin and B. Ann Tlusty, eds, Ashgate/ Aldershot, 2002, should be in print by August)
